Mary is a ceramic artist whose work integrates the precision of wheel throwing with the expressive freedom of hand-building. Her practice is driven by a deep appreciation for the tactile nature of clay and a commitment to exploring its possibilities.

On the wheel, Mary crafts forms that are both elegant and precise. Each piece reflects a meticulous attention to detail--particularly her hand carved porcelain pieces, where she spends hours sketching and then carving out original one-of-a-kind designs, employing the age-old artistic process of relief carving.

In hand-building, on the other hand, clay offers a canvas for experimentation of form. Manipulating the clay by hand allows Mary to delve into the world of asymmetry, intuitively creating unique, organic shapes that convey a sense of spontaneity. Embracing imperfections that emerge during the hand-building process results in vessels that are minimal, and often evoke natural shapes such as shells, spirals, waves, or rock formations.

Mary approaches each new project with a respect for the craft. Her goal is to create works that not only serve a practical purpose but also evoke an emotional response.
